Maureen Brown | Secretary

Maureen Brown's connection to horse racing began at an early age. Born in Massachusetts, she moved to Salem, New Hampshire, at the age of three and grew up near historic Rockingham Park. Many of her childhood friends were part of racetrack families, and frequent visits to the track helped foster a lifelong love of horses and racing.

It was also at Rockingham Park that Maureen met her husband, Darrell Brown, in 1984 while he was riding there as a jockey. Their shared connection to racing has remained an important part of their lives ever since.

​

Before joining Jockey Relief Alliance, Maureen served as Transportation and Accommodations Coordinator for Jockeys and Jeans, helping coordinate the many logistical details involved in bringing jockeys and guests together for fundraising events. At the Tampa Bay event, Maureen took on an especially important role in hospitality, while also assisting with event planning and sponsor relationships. Her attention to detail, willingness to step in wherever needed, and genuine care for the people involved contributed greatly to the success of the event.

As Secretary of Jockey Relief Alliance, Maureen supports the Board in maintaining the organization's records and governance documentation while continuing to bring her experience in hospitality, event coordination and relationship building to JRA's work.

Maureen and Darrell make their home in the mountains of western North Carolina. She is proud to continue her involvement in the racing community through Jockey Relief Alliance and its mission to provide timely assistance to active jockeys facing unexpected hardship.
