Helping Jockeys When There Is Nowhere Else to Turn

​

Jockey Relief Alliance was created with a simple purpose: to help active jockeys facing unexpected financial hardship and to fill a gap when other assistance may not be available to them.

There are organizations within the racing industry doing important work for jockeys, particularly those who have suffered catastrophic or permanently disabling injuries. But not every jockey experiencing a serious hardship falls within those programs.

That's where we hope Jockey Relief Alliance can make a difference.

Filling the Gap

​

A jockey may be injured and unable to ride for weeks or months without being permanently disabled. An unexpected illness may affect the jockey or someone in their immediate family. A sudden life circumstance may create a financial crisis that has nothing to do with an injury on the racetrack.

In situations like these, a jockey may need help—but may not qualify for assistance through traditional programs.

Jockey Relief Alliance was created to help fill that gap.

Our focus is on providing immediate, temporary financial assistance to active jockeys experiencing an unexpected hardship when help may not otherwise be available.

Being There When It Matters

​

For a jockey, being unable to ride can also mean being unable to earn an income. Even a temporary setback can quickly create financial pressure for a jockey and their family.

Requests for assistance may involve circumstances such as:

• An injury that temporarily limits or prevents a jockey from riding

• An unexpected illness affecting the jockey or immediate family

• An unforeseen life circumstance that creates a temporary financial hardship

• Other exceptional circumstances reviewed individually by the JRA Board

Every situation is different. Our goal is to consider each request individually and respond with compassion, fairness and responsible stewardship of the funds entrusted to us.

Working Alongside the Racing Community

Jockey Relief Alliance is not intended to replace or compete with the important organizations already supporting members of the racing community.

We want to add another layer of support.

By focusing on immediate and temporary hardship affecting active jockeys, JRA hopes to help individuals who may otherwise find themselves caught between a genuine financial need and the eligibility requirements of existing assistance programs.

There is room—and need—for all of us.

Our fundraising events, sponsorships, donations, auctions, collectibles and relationships throughout the racing industry all serve one purpose:

To give Jockey Relief Alliance the resources to help a jockey when help is needed.

We believe the people who give so much to this sport should know that when life takes an unexpected turn, the racing community is willing to stand beside them.

Sometimes the need may be temporary.

Sometimes it may fall outside the programs that already exist.

Sometimes a helping hand at exactly the right moment can make all the difference.

That is the gap Jockey Relief Alliance was created to help fill.
