Roger Blanco | Board Member

Roger Blanco brings a unique and deeply personal perspective to the Board of Jockey Relief Alliance. A former professional jockey and longtime member of the racing community, Roger understands firsthand how quickly an unexpected event can change a rider's life and livelihood.

​

A native of Cuba, Roger's riding career ended following a serious racing accident at Monmouth Park in 1988 that left him paralyzed. In the years that followed, he remained connected to the sport he loves, including working as a jockey agent and developing lasting relationships throughout the racing community.

​

Roger has also made it a priority to support other jockeys facing difficult circumstances. Drawing from his own experiences, he has offered encouragement and practical guidance to riders adjusting to life-changing injuries and has consistently looked for ways to give back to the community that has remained such an important part of his life.

​

As a recipient of assistance from the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF), Roger has a personal understanding of the meaningful difference financial support can make during challenging times. He later served as a committee member with Jockeys and Jeans, helping support fundraising efforts benefiting the PDJF and permanently disabled jockeys.

​

Roger now brings that experience to Jockey Relief Alliance, whose mission focuses on providing timely assistance to active jockeys facing short-term injury or unexpected hardship.

​

His perspective is especially valuable to the JRA Board. Roger understands the realities jockeys face, the importance of providing assistance with compassion and dignity, and the responsibility that comes with deciding how charitable resources can best serve those who need them.

​

As a Board member, Roger is proud to continue giving back to the racing community and to help Jockey Relief Alliance build an organization that active jockeys can turn to when unexpected hardship arises.
